SOMEWHERE OVER THE RAINBOW
Sound the bugles. Raise the flags. A major knitting landmark has occurred in the ongoing history of my personal knitting saga.
The Rainbow Jacket is done. Every. Last. Stitch.
Here I am at Threadbear on Wednesday afternoon, knitting the very last stitch. Trumpets? Where were the blaring trumpets? Violins? At the very least, strolling violinists should have surrounded me. Drum rolls….I swear I could hear the drum rolls.
Work still remains. There are seams to be seamed, a few more ends to be woven in. Blocking must occur. A decision about closures, if any, needs to be made. Twiggy did get to model the rough draft of the finished jacket, and I do think it makes Twiggy look quite jaunty.
Ms. Twig even looks good from the rear view!
Now that the seven long months are behind me, I can be more cavalier about the length of time it took to make this jacket. After all, I didn’t get serious about it during the first two months. And in the Threadbear group, Karen is feeling pretty special about being near completion of her very first sweater, a year and a half in the making. Jean is very near the steeking point of a fair isle sweater that she started three years ago. (Jean's in the photo above. You can see that gorgeous sweater in her lap.) What’s seven months in the giant scheme of knitting things?
Decisions have already been made about what’s next, but that’s for another post. Today is for celebrating the pots of gold at the end of the Rainbow.

Wonderful!

I am sooo glad I washed my hair so I could look not so under the weather in your photo!! It looks loverly and I'm looking forward to seeing you wear it next week. I might be in the final stages of that steek stuff and in need of serious moral(morale?) support to do the cutting!

is steeking immoral? damn even knitters can get in trouble.
i love that jacket, sharon, it makes me want to work on my long put away jacket. i have decided that will be my recovery-from-knee-arthroscopy project. 2 weeks should make a good dent.

Oh Sharon, it's a masterpiece! When you put the closures on it and it's ready to wear, please have someone take a nice photo of you wearing it and post it to the blog!

It's so pretty - I'm sad to say I think I underestimated the loveliness of the Rainbow jacket as a WIP...never again!
