I see that some knitbloggers are making New Year’s Resolutions, and some are purposely staying far away from that activity, on the grounds that either we will or we won’t and writing it down for public consumption doesn’t mean diddley-squat.
Yeah, I agree with both camps. I’m a resolution-type person. It goes on daily in my life...just see my current to-do list. But I prefer to think of the All Encompassing New Year Statement of Good Intentions as more of a goal-setting exercise. I read an article yesterday that cautioned us goal-setters of the world not to set ourselves up for failure. I think the way to do that is to build on past success. Therefore, I’ve created a list of goals that I’m sure I can be successful at.
1. I plan to keep knitting.
2. I plan to continue going to my yoga class once a week.
3. I plan to continue writing blog entries whenver the writing spirit moves me.
4. I plan to keep eating chocolate, maybe every single day.
5. I plan to keep on reading fiction, both literary and trashy, whenever I feel like it. Which is a lot less often since I became a knitter and crocheter and blog reader and writer, and photo album consultant. (Plus I signed up to be an AARP volunteer tax counselor, so add one more thing to my to-do list. Huh? She likes to fill out income tax forms? Heck, yeah....it’s more challenging than crossword puzzles. Sort of like doing those complicated logic puzzles, except the premises of the tax code are all illogical.)
6. I plan to end my list here in order to have the time to guarantee success of all of the above.
SAYING GOODBYE
It's time for a fond farewell to the DKYD-along. Readers may remember that I started this group for support in my efforts to control weight through the yarn reward system. The sad truth is that I can’t be controlled. I buy yarn when I want to buy yarn, and I eat when I want to eat, and I never want to exercise but I do it anyway only sporadically, and I weigh what I weigh and that’s the way it is. (The weigh it is?) So I’m done with writing about it or worrying about it or even weighing in about it. I’ve put out a notice on the yahoo list, and I’m mentioning it here...if you have the button for this group on your blog, go ahead and remove it. Out with the old; make room for the new.
Speaking of which, I’ve done a tiny bit of blog housekeeping and streamlined my sidebar just a bit. I got rid of my WIP list since I never kept it up to date, and I cleaned up all my inactive knit-along buttons. Pretty soon I’ll start going through blog links to eliminate inactive or no longer existent links. But that’s for another day and another entry.
TRULY KNITTING RELATED CONTENT
I suppose I should mention something truly knitting related. Let’s see what I can dredge up. Progress.....I’m well into the last sleeve of Baggy, and I’m on the last quadrant of an interesting scarf. No photos until they are done though since there is nothing interesting to see of the separate pieces.
Committments...I just agreed this afternoon to test knit a baby sock pattern for Rae, but I don’t have to start it for a few weeks, so I can get Baggy done first. I officially signed up for Sarah Peasley’s Aran Knitting class, and LynnH’s polymer clay class, but not till March, so I can get Baggy done first.
I might have to retire from retirement in order to find more time!

I'm someone who enjoys filling out tax forms as well. For many years, I was a self-employed person who lived/worked in 2-3 during a given tax year and sometimes claimed business use of home. After that, I was keen to help any of my 1040EZ friends.

Given your fondness for numbers and puzzles, are you addicted to sudoku yet? I've got it bad.

I just took care of your Goal #4. Happily. In my defense, it was a gourmet dark chocolate truffle. And would've been a true shame to let it go to waist. ;-p

Thank you for the shout-out!
And, Sudoku? www.websudoku.com is great--four different levels (ranging from Easy to Evil), and you can check your answers, which is so helpful....

Hi Sharon, I haven't had a chance to stop by in a while. I love your hair spiral, your open-ended resolutions and your attitude about stupid weight loss. Best of luck in '06!

Sharon, you're a gal after my heart! I love your New Year's Resolutions. Instead of setting yourself of for failure, you make it easy to succeed. Very Clever! Way to go!

I like your resolutions.
I want to continue learning more about knitting and crocheting and to challenge myself with new projects.
