Did y'all hear a big thud yesterday, about 4:15 EST? That was me, falling off the Different Kind of Yarn Diet wagon. Yep, I rationalized my way right up to the cash register at Threadbear.
How do I rationalize?
Let me count the ways....
First, there's the fact that my pledge to reward myself with yarn bucks for each 5 pounds I lose hasn't been successful yet in motivating me to lose one tiny ounce. It's a good idea in theory, but in practice......
Second, there's the fact that I am obsessed with making the Diamond Patch sweater, and both of the yarns I had in my stash didn't work, for various sad and dismal reasons. And obsessions, by definition, are impossible to ignore.
Third, there's the fact that Threadbear sprang a surprise 20% sale over the weekend. 20% on top of their normal 10%.....do the math.
Now, I'm not quitting the DKYD-along. In fact, we've all been in touch, and we quite agree that the concept is worthy. Each of us is tweaking the method to fit our individual situations. Two of us have had some success with weight loss. Most of us have cheated...with food and with yarn.
For me, I'm going to revise my reward system. Instead of waiting to reward the outcome goal of yarn money for each 5 pound loss, I'm going to start rewarding the process instead. I will earn my yarn dollars for taking a walk, going to Curves, getting through a day without succumbing to certain chocolate temptations, and so on. If you want to know more, or just want to hang out with the DKYD-alongers, come and join the group at Yahoo. We're just introducing ourselves, so if you have a few or many pounds to lose, and a yarn habit that needs some controls, this is a great time to join. And of course, bring your knitting when you come to visit.
