Emma.

If you lived down the road I'd pop round to help you ! Short row shaping is the way to go.I like a garter stitch front band and collar, personally. The frog fasteners will be perfect, plus they deal with the buttohole calculation problem neatly ! If you have any Elizabet Zimmerman or Meg Swansen books they'd be worth a look through to help you work it out.Your first steps to being an intuitive knitter.Fab !

Chris

Look through patterns and online catalogs for a similar piece and see if you can't translate that into the jacket. It looks great so far. I took shawl collars at Stitches, I could send you my notes if that would help?

Mary-Heather

The book "Knitting in the Old Way" has great shawl collar instructions in the chapter on Cowichan Sweaters- and since the book is based on formulas and percentages, it can be used to work with the collar area you already have.

monica

It looks like you've gotten some good suggestions already. Good luck with the collar! I'm a wimp and still need patterns.

Hey Sharon -- Good for you! You've reached another one of those "growing pains for knitters." They're never easy on the nerves, but you'll do great -- just take your time, breathe, and trust your hands. I second Mary-Heather's vote for "Knitting in the Old Way." I'm not quite up to "off-road knitting" yet myself, but that's where I want to go when I get to where you are now.

The Moebius looks absolutely gorgeous, BTW! That's the color I picked when I knitted with Giotto.

Tacha

The fasteners are great. I am too much of a beginner to even attempt to comment on the pattern but I am looking forward to seeing what you decide to do.

Kathleen

I agree with everyone--love the moebius, the fasteners and mom's sweater looks great too. :) Not sure about the cuddle party though. I like to wear old ratty t-shirts to sleep in. :)

Another vote for Elizabeth Z...and be BRAVE, just jump right into the pattern, it is so exciting to learn to leap;)
About the adoption idea....several of my girlfriends children have stayed with me for *awhile* and report that I am a Terrible Influence....teehee.
